Blood pressure is the strength of pushing blood through the blood vessels in the body and is measured in mmHg. A normal blood pressure is considered to be 120/80 and a high blood pressure is 135/90 mmHg or higher, low blood pressure is considered to be 95/60 mmHg or lower. When your blood pressure goes high it puts a strain on the arteries and can even cause a heart attack or stroke. Low blood pressure can lead to heart failure and dehydration.

Causes of Blood Pressure (BP)

There are various causes of high BP like family history of hypertension, eating processed foods & saturated fats, smoking, consumption of alcohol, high blood sugar, kidney disease and lack of exercising. The causes of low BP are prolonged bed rest and side effects of medicines.

A healthy lifestyle and eating habits are really important in curing high blood pressure. Here are few things you can do to cure your high blood pressure:

  • Excess weight is one of the causes of high BP so talk to your doctor to find out what your ideal weight should be. Lose your weight in a safe way to maintain normal BP.
  • Exercise on a regular basis to improve oxygen intake and normalize the BP.

  • Stress causes high BP therefore try to manage your stress to lower BP.
  • Yoga meditation is an effective way to manage BP so learn and practice yoga every day early in the morning.

  • Reduce your sodium intake to lower BP.
  • Eat potassium rich fruits and vegetables that will help to lower BP.
