Health benefits of Grapefruit

Grapefruits have been grown for more that two hundred years on the planet. They grew in clusters similar to grapes, which is why they have given it the name grapefruit. Although they are mainly produced in America, they are available for consumption around the world. They are low in calories, full of nutrients and are a good source of vitamin A and C. Their glycemic index is low so do not significantly affect blood sugar level.

When you buy grapefruit make sure it is ripe and ready to use, go for an organic one if available. You can store it at room temperature but away from direct sunlight.

Excessive use of anything has an adverse affect on health. It is a good idea to eat a diet with a variety rather than consuming one single food.

Its taste is bitter to sweet. You can eat it on its own or drink freshly squeezed juice in the morning or use them in fruit salads or even use its juice on salad dressing.

Here is one of my favorite weight loss juice recipes. In order to get maximum health benefits of this drink it is recommended to consume it on an empty stomach.

Ingredients:

  • One medium sized grapefruit
  • Half a medium sized cucumber
  • Half an apple
  • A pinch of ground black pepper

Preparations:

Put the ingredients into juicer one by one apart from the ground black pepper. Extract the juice, then add ground black pepper in it and shake well before you consume.
